National Competition Skills Camp 2025

June 11-13th, 2025 from 1-4pm

Our Competition Skills Camp is designed to teach hone athletes’ skills to make them well-rounded competitors in the USAC field and beyond. Athletes will learn modern coordination & dynamic comp movement, utilizing no-tex holds, and learn to develop a process around approaching competitions. Athletes will leave with actionable techniques to improve their climbing performance on and off the wall. This camp leads directly into our National Competition Simulation on June 14-15th where climbers will test their newly developed skills in mock competition format.

Sign up for June 11-13th here.

National Competition Simulation 2025

Our National Competition Simulation is a mock competition aimed at preparing athletes for the complex, high-level, and dynamic setting they will encounter at USAC Nationals and National Cups. Our skilled setting team (including Region 61 Chief Mary Creegan) craft a round of boulders that test climbers’ ability across a wide terrain.

Athletes will compete on a round of boulders and have a chance to climb them after the competition, while learning from climbers & coaches from other teams.

Sign up for June 14-15th here.

FAQs

We’d love to help! Email our Head Coach, Tyler Williams: tyler.williams@boulderingproject.com

We typically offer tryouts for our competitive teams twice a year: once in the spring and once in the fall.

Progressive Club tryouts are held quarterly.

Check our social media and website for updates on when the next try out is happening!

Competition simulations are designed for athletes to practice their competition climbing skills. They mimic the format and setting of USAC and other high-level climbing competitions so climbers can better prepare themselves before the day of a big event. Our simulations are very similar to the constraints of a “real” competition: we have climbers in an isolation area (ISO) where they will wait for their time to be called, climbers get 4 minutes to climb each of the boulders in their age category’s round, and be scored on their attempts.

At MBP competition simulations however, kids will also learn actionable techniques to help them perform their best – ranging from tactics on the wall to mental strategy.

After the climbing is complete, athletes get a chance to climb the boulders again and learn new movements set by our high-level routesetting team.

We typically offer simulations before select USAC events like Regionals or Nationals.

Isabelle Shoemaker

Hello! I’ve been climbing since I was a kid and grew up on the USA Climbing scene. I fell in love with movement and coaching and starting coaching right out of high school, around 7 years ago! Since then, I’ve worked with anyone and everyone from beginners teaching Intro to Rock Climbing at the University of Minnesota to our wicked good 10 year-olds here on team MBP, where I’m currently the Assistant Head Coach. My favorite clients to coach have an open mind, and are willing to fail, learn, and push themselves toward a goal!

Simon Hibbler

Simon is a 26 year-old competitive rock climber currently based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. he has gained a breadth of experience competing both Nationally and Internationally and also has an impressive outdoor tick list. He has over 5 years of coaching experience at a few different gyms, and is a recognized athlete on the competition scene in the US. He is a decorated competitor with multiple podiums on the North American Cup Series and World Cup appearances in both Munich and Salt Lake City.

Bug D'Amato

Hi, my name is Bug and I have been a competitive rock climber since I was 6 years old and started competing on the national level by age 7. During my 13 years as a competitive youth climber, I have been a multi-time regional and divisional champion in all three disciplines of competition climbing (boulder, lead, speed). Currently, I primarily focus on training competitive bouldering athletes, specializing in competition mindset/process and high-level technical skill/movement acquisition, but I am more than happy to focus on whatever you need to help reach your individual goals!

Fun Fact: I am a total animal lover, although I never really had a choice not to be growing up with a mom in animal rescue. I don’t remember a time when there were fewer than 10 cats in the house at once!
