Artist in Residence: Victoria Christopher
Victoria Christopher is an outdoor photographer focused on documenting the landscape and the natural environment. Growing up she spent a significant amount of time in the Washington Cascade Mountain Range and Hoh Rainforest. When she moved to the Southern California desert, it was a stark difference. This move taught Victoria to appreciate not only for the grandeur in nature but also the granular. In her work she aims to capture and show the obvious and the hidden details of the landscape.
While many of these photos encapsulate and resemble the exploration of “wilderness,” as you recognize the photos for what they are, Victoria invites you to take a moment to pay your respects to the generations of indigenous people whom the land originally was inhabited and cared by. Some of these include the Nyyhmy, the Taidnapam, and the Timbisha Shoshone people.
