West River – Summer Camp

Summer Camp Registration is Open!

MBP Summer Camp is geared toward youth ages 5-12 and offers plenty of climbing and social time.

Each week’s session runs daily from 9am – 2pm with options for Extended Day available. Whether your child is an experienced climber or brand new to bouldering, they will have a blast with our MBP instructors leading the way. Campers will learn basic climbing techniques, terminology, and play games on and off the wall. Kids will also participate in activities related to the theme of the week.

This year we’re offering 4 themes: Routesetting, Field Day Games, Yoga, & Art. Kids will talk to our Routesetters and learn what goes into creating boulders, compete in a pool noodle javelin throw competition, explore the energetic flowing movement of yoga, or tap into their creative side with arts & crafts.

Register for the first day of the session (Monday), and our system will automatically enroll you for the rest of the week. Do the same if you plan to register for Extended Day. Extended Day participants must be enrolled in Summer Camp for that same week.

Theme: Routesetting

Spend a week learning about the wonderful world of routesetting. In these sessions of camp, kids will get to make up their own boulders, learn about all the different types of climbing holds and when they’re used, and get to chat with one of our own MBP setters! Just like our regular camps, kids will get plenty of climbing time filled with fun and games, but these sessions have special activities to teach kids how to think “behind the scenes” of some of their favorite climbs

Theme: Field Day Games

This special theme of camp combines climbing with all the fun of field day. Kids will get to do activities like a pool noodle javelin throw, egg & spoon race, and even decorate their own medals! Between time on the climbing wall and playing games, it’s a day of activities, action, and adventure.

Theme: Yoga

What do climbing and yoga have in common? A lot more than you’d think! Kids get to take their very own yoga class and learn how breathing and mindfulness can help them on and off the climbing wall. The body awareness that climbing and yoga teach is great for both engaging energetic bodies and brains!

Climbing and crafts, what’s not to love? Climbing requires creative movement, and when not using their thinking skills to problem solve on the wall, kids will participate in origami, beading friendship bracelets, and painting rocks among many other fun activities.

Youth Rules and Expectations

Climbing is an exciting and fun sport—but it does come with risks. We insist on highly-attentive adult supervision to mitigate these risks for youth and other climbers. Before climbing with us, please read through our Rules and Expectations.

  1. Youth under the age of 14 must be closely accompanied by an adult at all times.
  2.  Our supervision ratio is 2 to 1; up to 2 youth climbers can be supervised by 1 adult chaperone at a time.
  3. Stay far from the walls and out of fall zones when moving through the gym or waiting to climb. A “fall zone” is anywhere on the mats where a climber could land if they were to fall.
  4. Make sure to check where a route ends before starting to climb–some routes are close together or even overlap, and you don’t want to end up directly above, below, or next to another climber.
  5. This is a climbing gym! Please save running, wrestling, horseplay, and gymnastics for other spaces.

Due to programming, the youth room is unavailable on certain days and times each week. When not in use for programming, the Youth Room is open and available for you to enjoy! To stay in the know, check out our Youth Room highlight on Instagram.

In general, the Youth Room is unavailable during the following times:

  • Weekdays from 4 PM – 6PM
  • Weekends from 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM
  • When Adventure Days & Weeks are occurring
  • When a private birthday event is booked (often occurring on Saturdays and Sundays: 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM, 3 PM – 5 PM)

Have questions about climbing, the facility, or risk? Ask our staff—we are here to help.
