Flash Foxy Education Series

Making Space for Women and Genderqueer Climbers

FLASH FOXY x ARC’TERYX PRESENTS

Beginner to Baddie Bouldering Series!

This course will meet once a month for 3 months. It is designed to help new climbers get comfortable bouldering and taking up space as climbers while also gaining the skills, confidence and community to plan your first outdoor bouldering trip. Participants are encouraged to climb together and practice the skills between sessions – maybe you’ll even plan an outdoor trip together by the end of this!

What you’ll learn:

Key climbing equipment and climbing terminology; how to warm up, read a climb, and falling technique; risk management skills including spotting; the basics of climbing movement; and outdoor climbing prep and etiquette.

FAQs

Currently, Flash Foxy Education courses are only open to participants who identify as women and genderqueer climbers. Not sure if this includes you? Please check Flash Foxy’s FAQs.

Flash Foxy programs are open to climbers of all ability types and levels, including people who have never climbed before. If you have a disability that you’re not sure if we can accommodate, please reach out to education@flashfoxy.com.

To climb at BP Brooklyn, you just need climbing shoes. If you don’t own any, as a Flash Foxy Educations Series participant, you can get rental climbing shoes for free from the front desk. Most climbers prefer to use chalk, although it is not required. Chalk is also available for free for Flash Foxy Education Series participants at the front desk. We recommend wearing comfortable, stretchy athletic clothing.

Flash Foxy education programming is geared towards adults, but young adults and kids are welcome as well! Those under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Flash Foxy aims to compensate instructors well so that they don’t need to rely on additional gratuity, and you don’t need to think about extra budgeting after you’ve paid your course fee. However, if your instructor has given you an exceptional experience, and you and/or your fellow students would like to show appreciation, please feel free to tip. Groups of students often pool a tip for instructors and the use of Venmo, Paypal, or other electronic payment is common. Gratuity is always appreciated.

Other forms of gratuity are also welcome! If you don’t have the funds to provide a monetary tip, please consider sending your instructor a handwritten card or homemade gift. Our instructors often take bookings outside of Flash Foxy courses as well, so sharing their website or social media platform with your networks can help generate work and income for them.
