What are the different categories?

Recreational, Intermediate, and Advanced categories will be gender inclusive and all ages.  Everyone, altogether, climbing hard and encouraging one another on every move.

Recreational – Yellow/Red/Green

Intermediate – Purple/Orange/Black

Advanced – Black/Blue/Pink

We will have two rounds of competition for Recreational, Intermediate, and Advanced divisions. Competitors should sign up for the time slot that best fits their schedule!  Each boulder will have a designated judge – climbers will give the judge their scorecard to get in line. Judges will record the outcome of their attempt. Participants may complete in only ONE of the following Sessions:

Round 1: 11:00AM – 2:00PM

Round 2: 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM

How do you choose your category?

Competitors will self-select into their respective categories during the registration process.  The idea is to challenge yourself!

When trying your absolute hardest, if you are able to top 10 boulders in the highest color available in that category in one climbing session, you should compete at the next level up.

See the example below:

Example: “I generally climb purples/oranges/blacks. I can flash most oranges.”

When trying your hardest, are you able to complete 10 black boulders in one climbing session?

We recommend the Advanced Category.

When trying your hardest, is the Black category overall still challenging, meaning you can’t send 10 black boulders in one climbing session?

We recommend the Intermediate Category.

What is the Open Category?

Open round competitors should be climbing predominantly whites. If a climber is consistently able to climb white boulders, they more than likely should register for the Open category. Open participants may only qualify in the following round:

Open Qualifier: Fri, Nov 3rd, 6:00PM – 9:00PM

This round will have designated judges scoring at each boulder.  The top 6 men and top 6 women from the open qualifier round will advance to finals, held Saturday, November 4th at 7:00pm. Finalists must enter the isolation area by 5:30pm Saturday.

Be a part of the action! Volunteers will receive snacks and beverages, a special Boulderfest shirt, and two free day passes! Volunteers may compete in a session opposite of their working shift (see registration page for limitations). Volunteers must still pay to compete at Boulderfest.
